When I was a kid, I LOVED the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. It was my favorite place in the whole world. I have this infinite love for history you see. Anyway, today is the grand opening of the new “world class facility”. The museum is located in the Fort Worth cultural district. What that means is the museum is in walking distance of the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, Amon Carter Museum, Kimball Art Museum, Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Will Rogers Memorial Center and Casa Manana Theater.  If that’s not enough the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens and Fort Worth Zoo are also nearby. How fun is that?!

Okay, back to the museum. Aside from the new facility, there is also the Noble Planetarium and the Omni Theater, which is the “biggest IMAX dome in the Southwest”. It’s a really cool theater. I remember seeing a documentary on the Grand Canyon there once. The documentary was shot on the river that cuts through the canyon and it felt like you were rafting. It was really awesome, but I got motion sickness. I had to shut my eyes through some of it.

Currently showing at the Omni are The Polar Express (cute animation starring Tom Hanks), Riding Around the World (documentary exploring the thriving global culture that has helped shape western civilization), and The Alps (giant screen mountain adventure). I am interested in The Alps! What are you interested in? For show time listings click here.

Aside from the Omni, the museum has a ton of exhibits. Some of them are even interactive. CSI: The Experience is currently at the museum as a traveling exhibit. If you are a fan of CSI and forensics, you may want to check this exhibit out. For a list of the exhibits currently at the FWMSH click here.

Because this is opening day for the new facility, the first 3,500 guests get in for free. The ribbon cutting ceremony starts at 10am. There should be plenty of time to be one of the 3,500. The weather super sucks today (don’t expect there to be a ginormous crowd waiting outside), because it’s raining and it’s a week day. So if you are looking for something to do today, why not go to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. If you do, tell me if it’s any good.

YAY!
