Did you enjoy your first day back to work/school or wherever it is that you got back to? Did you ask people what they did on New Year’s Eve? Did you get answers like the following?
I/We went to a party.
I/We spent the night at home with the kids. (this isn’t me)
I/We had reservations at a nice restaurant.
I was sick and passed out at around 7. (I hope you’re feeling better Haley)
What you probably didn’t get was this answer:
I had sex!
Considering the degree of elation in which this response was given, I assume that before now – that didn’t happen very often. What do you say when someone blurts out that they played with someone else? You say, “Wow! That’s totally awesome.”
It’s pretty obvious though that when someone tells you that they did the nasty that they want to talk about it. It’s like when women (not all women) get boob jobs, tell you about it and then make you squeeze them to see if they feel “natural”. Can I just say that when (okay, more like if) I get mine done, I won’t subject you to that. Anyway, is there a polite way to tell someone that you don’t want to hear the details? Somethings should just stay private yo. For instance, what are you suppose to do with this?
“He’s a biter. I’ve never been bitten before. I have bruises now.”
Or this?
“I told him to be gentle, because it’s not a construction site.”
You just file that away I guess. File it way, way back in the never to be heard from again part of your mind.
