Two Sundays ago, Hana hurt her leg. She was running up the stairs like she usually does as if the fires of hell were after her, but this time – something went wrong. I heard her yelp really loud and saw her hobbling back down the stairs. She then sat on the landing and refused to go up. I checked her paws to make sure she didn’t step on anything or had a torn nail. I didn’t find anything wrong with her paws. Jack and I went upstairs, but she refused to go. After much coaxing, she slowly made her way to the second floor.
I was really worried about her, because I thought she broke or fractured something. Luckily, she walks fine on flat surfaces and still manages to run and pull on our walks. The only problem is going up a flight of stairs or jumping onto my bed. It pains her when she puts a lot of weight on her two front legs. I’m not really sure which leg it is to tell you the truth. I thought it was the right one, except she rolled on top of the left one today and yelped.
The first night she hurt her leg, I kept hearing her walk around my bed in the middle of the night. I got up at around 2am, put on my glasses and found her sitting beside my bed – staring up at me. I knew that she wanted to sleep with me, but she couldn’t jump onto the bed due to her leg. So, I grabbed my pillow and blanket and went to sleep with her on the floor. She pressed up next to me and immediately went to sleep. Jackson was confused, because he’s usually the only one who sleeps on the floor and after a while he decided to go sleep on the bed by himself. I think he enjoyed it immensely.
My vet thinks she sprained something and I’ve been directed to give her over the counter remedies. I miss sleeping with her. It’s nice to have the whole bed all to myself and not just the edge, but I really miss snuggling with her at night. Ever since the incident with her leg, I’ve been saving up for a vet visit. I was hoping I wouldn’t have to see my vet until the next vaccination. I’ve cut down our visits a lot already by taking on the nasty duty of gland expressing. Jack scoots every Friday like clock work and every Friday night we have a date in the tub, where I express his anal glands. (P.S. It is one of the most foulest things in the world.)
No – it’s not normal that I have to do it so often. His glands just don’t express on his own and I’ve been given the option of having them surgically removed so that I wouldn’t have to mess with them any more and could spend my Friday nights doing something more electrifying. However, if I have to choose between a $700 surgery or free anal gland expressing by yours truly – I’m going to suffer through it and go with free.
