The muscles in my neck have been hurting for the past week. I thought I had been sleeping wrong and that it had something to do with my really flat pillow. It was worse when I was laying in bed. Every time I turned over or moved it was like someone was gripping the muscles at the back of my neck and the area between my shoulder blades. Not pleasant, let me tell you.
It finally dawned on me yesterday that my pain may have something to do with my bad posture. For the past week I’d been working on that database I was complaining about. Anyway, I’d been sitting straight up on the edge of my chair day in and day out. No wonder I’m having issues, right?
Well, this morning I woke up in more pain than I’d ever been in. I don’t know what made me think to do it, but I laid there flat on my back and tried to touch my chin to my chest. I was told a loooonnnngggg time ago that if you lay flat on your back and couldn’t touch your chin to your chest, because your neck was too stiff – you had meningitis. Well, this morning I couldn’t do it so I freaked out. I grabbed my cell off the nightstand and called my mother.
me: “Mom, my neck is really stiff and sore. I think I have meningitis.”
mom: “You don’t have meningitis. You probably just have sore neck and back muscles.”
me: “Are you sure?”
I could almost see my mother rolling her eyes. She reassured me once again and then started asking me if I certain medication on hand. She didn’t use over the counter names either. She was using the medical names. Do you have this? Didn’t I give this to you once before? Go check if you have this? WHAT?!
So, now I’m taking Tylenol. Good ol’ standby.

I’ve been having neck pains this week too – it’s because of my bad posture when I was working from home on Wednesday and had to do a ton of data entry withouth a comfy place to sit. It’s an awful pain!
it’s awful!
acetaminophen… hahaha… she does that to me too. hope you feel better!!! don’t tell anyone, but i had a stiff neck not too long ago as well… and yes, i did that test too.
I have been going to the chiroprctor two times a week for about 2 months now because of the neck problems I have from my bad posture! Not fun! Two suggestions: 1) Buy a lumbar pad for your desk chair at work. It is amazing. It is only like $15 and straightens up your back and pulls your shoulders back. 2) Slightly more $$$ ($50 to be exact) buy a water pillow. Forms to your neck while sleeping. I have 5 qts. of water in mine! Crazy, huh? Good luck, I know how uncomfortable it can be.
